Summer Holidays

· From the 2010–2013 blog

Whatever happened to summer holidays? Man they were the best. As I try and get used to my new surroundings and workspace one of the things I have to contend with is my little brothers enjoying their last few days of summer holidays before school starts up again next week. But it is really different now. I remember hunting for frogs and crayfish, playing paintball, fishing for carp and riding the dirt bike. My mother would (understandably) get sick of us and lock us outside, and we would just tear around all day, raising hell and exploring. but these days it seems more like 2 months of Nintendo and family channel training. I dont think I could do it. staring at a screen for that many hours on end?!? my brain would leak out my ears. that being said video games are better these days - so who knows. I think my favorite part (don't worry its kinda topical) was the daydreaming. who and what I wanted to be. where I would live and what kind of car I would drive. the things I was gonna build out of that old scrap parts bin. and what I was gonna do for the rest of the day/week/summer. none of it real or even memorable. but what I do remember was, i was free. free to escape, dream and imagine. which i guess was pretty cool. we don't get to do that much anymore. were too realistic - too bogged down by our circumstances and situation. and I'll probably have to retract this in a few months - but its pretty neat to throw away the realism and dive off the cliff into dream land again! to write my own rules, and work towards my dreams in a very tangible way. i don't get to do a lot of day dreaming these days - but I do know, in my heart, that I'm living the most important dream I've had for the biggest part of my memorable life. and thats pretty cool.
