My Obsession with Tools

· From the 2010–2013 blog

So, this post has absolutely nothing to do with the University of Waterloo or our beloved Tool. Its more of a confession. I have a problem. I want the best of breed business tools to play nice with one another. I want them all and I dont want to settle for a giant conglomerate app that does everything poorly. As part of my week off setting up for the new I've been putting together a toolbox at unit21.ca mostly for me to keep track of everything, and so that when I want to take notes, or record a contact I have a place to do it. So far its probably gone better than I expected, I'm almost done and have only spent 30 or so hours on the project. but seriously 30 hours is crazy! why cant shit just get along, play nice, and have unified logins!!! (one of the problems with a dozen different tools is they all have their own login - which blows huge). Someone should form a council and do up specs on communication mediums or something like that... or better yet start a business producing a standardized set of tools and integrate them into everything, so I can just untar and go. Tomorrow if ambition serves I will be posting a listing of my various successes as well as sending out logins so people can start using and inevitably breaking shit. But I feel like its time to start kicking myself (focus!) - the tools dont matter if I have no reason to use them.
