Looking At The Competition

So I have been spending the bulk of my biz time over the last few days trying to figure out what our competitors are doing and how we can so boldly say that we are going to ninja into a 10 billion dollar market and take part of it. and it turns out, that all of my original judgments are very accurate - their stuff sucks! we are talking about software that creates connections (the end goal of electrical schematic capture is a logical list of pin connections called a netlist) and at times its hard as fuck to figure out whats connected - which really just blows my mind. why cant someone build software that goes back to the basics and makes it really easy for people to form connections?? oh wait - shhhh forget I mentioned that. what follows is my list of what sucks about the software I have played with. First what I have played with so far:

• OrCad
• ViewDraw
• KiCad
• Eagle
• gEDA

The suck list:

• Hard to make and view connections
• Too many clicks to do anything
• Secret, mystery clicks that do things you don't intend
• Part libraries suck, I can never find what I want
• UGLY - oh my god they are all so ugly
• Crappy decals, symbols, and forced connections between them
• Crappy software design - Despite their open sourced-ness I cant even go into the code and make them better
